Broken Heart Martini

29E314B7-02B0-440E-926B-C5ED3C17B795.heic

Ingredients:

cocoa powder for garnish

sugar for garnish

orange slice and wedge for garnish

berry-flavored vodka*

Godiva milk chocolate liqueur

Fill a shaker with ice. Add 2.5 oz. of berry-flavored vodka. Add .5 oz Godiva liqueur. Shake well, then set aside. Use an orange wedge to rim a chilled martini glass with juice. Dip the moist (I'm sorry; I couldn't resist) glass edge into a 1:1 mixture of cocoa powder and sugar. Strain the liquors into the rimmed martini glass. Garnish with an orange.

Tips:

The original cocktail calls for Absolute Kurant, but they quit producing it/exporting it to the States circa 2015. I substituted with Ciroq Red Berry vodka, but a more accurate flavor profile would be to substitute with creme de cassis. Jacquin's makes a decent version for less money. If you use the cassis, you'll also have to cut it with vodka for the same balance in flavors and texture. So, the recipe would be more like 1 oz. cassis: 1.5 oz. plain vodka: .5 oz. Godiva.

You can use any type of orange you like, but don't skimp on the garnish! It totally changes the flavor of the cocktail!
